About Md Meraj

I’m Md Meraj — Woodworker, Furniture Maker & Founder of Woodworking Advisor

Hi, I’m Md Meraj — a woodworker, furniture maker, and the founder of Woodworking Advisor. I’ve spent the last 12+ years working with wood: first out of pure curiosity, and now as a profession.

How I Got Into Woodworking

I didn’t learn woodworking in a classroom. As a kid I was the one taking things apart just to see how they fit together, then trying to build something better. That habit never left. Over the years it grew from a hobby into a career across woodworking, interior design, and furniture making — and for the last 7+ years I’ve run my own furniture business, building pieces for real customers, not just for practice.

What I Know

Twelve years in the shop teaches you where the real problems are. My hands-on experience covers:

  • Wood finishing & staining — tested dozens of stains, sealers, and topcoats from brands like Minwax, Behr, Cabot, and Rubio Monocoat
  • Furniture making — solid-wood joinery, hardwood selection, surface prep, and finishing
  • Deck building & outdoor wood — pressure-treated lumber, deck stains, composite vs. natural wood
  • Lumber & materials — plywood grades, dimensional lumber, MDF, LVP, and everything in between
  • Tools — circular saws, miter saws, routers, and sanders, used hands-on every day

I’ve also completed formal studies in interior design, which gave structure to what years in the shop taught by hand. To be clear about my lane: my experience is in furniture, finishing, and home and DIY woodworking — not industrial mass-production. So everything here is written for makers and homeowners, the way I actually work.

Why I Built This Site

Here’s what pushed me to start Woodworking Advisor: most woodworking content online is written by people who have never actually picked up a board. Generic advice, recycled tips, no real testing behind any of it. When I was learning, that’s exactly what frustrated me — so I decided to build the opposite. Every guide, product recommendation, and calculator on this site comes from direct, hands-on experience. My rule is simple: if I haven’t tested it myself or used it on a real project, I don’t publish it.

What You’ll Find Here

On this site you’ll find practical guides across wood types, finishing, flooring, tools & saws, projects & tips, plus a set of free woodworking calculators — from choosing the right wood stain to working out how many deck boards you need. It’s built for DIYers, homeowners, and fellow woodworkers who want advice that actually holds up in the shop.

Let’s Connect

If that’s the kind of woodworking help you’ve been looking for, you’re in the right place. Start with the guides, try the calculators, and if you have a question about a project, email me at [email protected] or reach out through the contact page — I read what comes in and answer when I can. Let’s build something that lasts.
