Waxes

Wax gives wood a soft, low-sheen protective glow and is easy to renew. This section covers applying beeswax and paste wax, plus removing old wax build-up.

Applying wax: apply beeswax and the Johnson paste-wax story (and alternatives).

Removing wax: get wax off wood, from a table, and from furniture.

For all finish types, see our wood finishing guide.

How do you apply beeswax to wood? Rub a thin coat into clean, dry wood with a cloth, let it haze, then buff to a soft sheen; reapply as needed.

How do you remove old wax from wood? Wipe with mineral spirits on a soft cloth (or fine steel wool for build-up), then let it dry before refinishing.
