Where Are Laguna Tools Made? Taiwan, Italy and Texas by Model
Most Laguna Tools machines are designed in the United States but built overseas: bandsaws, lathes and table saws mostly in Taiwan, some bandsaws in Italy, while CNC machines are assembled in Grand Prairie, Texas. So “made in the USA” is true only for that CNC assembly. This guide lists the origin by product line, with sources, and shows how to check the exact machine you plan to buy.

Laguna Tools 14|BX Bandsaw, 1.75 HP, 13 in Resaw Capacity (MBAND14BX110-175) The Laguna machine whose origin is spelled out on the maker’s own page: designed in California, built at an ISO-9001 certified facility in Taiwan. It is the best-known example of how the brand splits design and manufacturing.

Laguna Tools is a woodworking and metalworking machinery company that was founded in 1983 by Torben Helshoj. Its own website lists offices in Irvine, California and Grand Prairie, Texas, and a US Manufacturing Report profile says headquarters moved to Grand Prairie in 2020. The company describes its Classic Series as “designed in California” and “manufactured and shipped globally.”
That last phrase is the honest answer to the question: Laguna is an American company that designs machines in the US and contracts most of the actual building to factories abroad. The profile quotes the company describing the model directly: “We do it here and then we send it to a factory in Taiwan.” Below is the breakdown by product line.
Laguna Origin by Product Line
| Product line | Where it is made | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Classic Series bandsaws (14|BX, 18|BX) | Designed in California, built at an ISO-9001 certified facility in Taiwan | Laguna product pages |
| Italian industrial bandsaws (LT18) | Italy, listed as “Made in Italy” ($6,499 plus $399 freight on one retailer page) | Retailer listing (Eagle Tools) |
| Other traditional machines (lathes, sanders, table saws) | Taiwan, built to Laguna designs | US Manufacturing Report profile |
| CNC routers and lasers | Assembled and finished in Grand Prairie, Texas, with frames sourced from China and parts from many countries | US Manufacturing Report profile |
| Some European-sourced products | Europe, through supplier relationships | US Manufacturing Report profile |
The 14|BX is the clearest documented case, because Laguna states its country of manufacture on the product page and prices it at $2,149 to $2,199. If you are comparing it with a US-built cabinet-style saw, expect a different price and a different origin story. Our Laguna table saw comparison of the F1, F2 and F3 covers the saw side of the lineup.

What “Designed in California” Does and Does Not Mean
The Federal Trade Commission draws a firm line here. An unqualified “Made in USA” claim requires that final assembly happens in the US, that all significant processing happens in the US, and that all or virtually all components are made and sourced domestically. A claim like “Designed in USA, made in Taiwan” is treated as a qualified claim, because it states the extent of the domestic work instead of implying the whole product is American.
Three practical points follow from that rule:
- Design is not manufacture. A machine engineered in California and cast, machined and assembled in Taiwan is a Taiwanese-made machine with an American design.
- Assembly in Texas is not the same as US-made parts. Laguna’s CNC frames come from China per the profile above, so “assembled in the USA” is the accurate label, not “made in the USA”.
- A single company can have several origins. The same brand sells Taiwan-built bandsaws, Italian-built bandsaws and Texas-assembled CNC routers, so a blanket answer to “where are Laguna tools made” is always wrong for at least one model.
That last point is why older pages that answer with one country, including a previous version of this article that claimed a US and China split, cannot be trusted. Origin has to be checked per model.
How to Check Where Your Exact Laguna Machine Is Made
- Read the manufacturer’s product page. Laguna’s Classic Series pages state the country of manufacture in the description, as the 14|BX page does for Taiwan.
- Check the retailer listing. Some dealers print “Made in Italy” or similar, as one does for the LT18. Treat this as a lead, then confirm with Laguna.
- Look at the data plate and manual. The plate or manual usually shows the country of origin, so check it when the machine arrives.
- Ask before you pay. Laguna lists a phone line on its site, and any dealer can tell you the origin of a machine in stock. Get the answer in writing if origin matters to you.
- Do not rely on brand-level claims. An “American company” badge tells you where the office is, not where the castings were poured.
Does Where a Laguna Is Made Affect Warranty and Quality?
Laguna states that new woodworking machines sold by the company carry a two-year warranty, and it advertises lifetime factory support. Both apply to the brand regardless of where a given machine was built, so origin does not by itself change your coverage. Confirm terms for your specific model before buying, because the site excerpts we read did not give the full policy.
On quality, the honest position is that country of origin is a weak signal. A Taiwan facility with ISO-9001 certification, such as the one Laguna names for the 14|BX, can hold tight tolerances, and a machine can arrive with a defect from any factory anywhere. What matters more when you buy is fit and finish on arrival, the flatness of the table, the guide and fence quality, and how the seller handles a return. We have not tested Laguna machines for this article, so we make no performance claims here.
Laguna Bandsaw Price Ladder: What You Pay at Each Origin Tier
Origin often shows up in the price. Here are four Laguna bandsaws with the prices we saw on 2026-09-30 (Amazon buy-box prices via the Amazon Creators API for the first three, a retailer page for the LT18), so you can see how the tiers stack up.
| Model | Price seen | Key spec | Country of origin |
|---|---|---|---|
| V:10 (10 in, 1 HP, 120V) | $649 | 5.75 in resaw height | Not stated in the listing we read |
| MBAND1412-175 (14 x 12, 1.75 HP) | $1,699 | 13 in resaw capacity | Not stated in the listing we read |
| 14|BX (1.75 HP, 110V) | $2,149 | 13 in resaw, 21-1/2 x 16 in table | Taiwan (Laguna product page) |
| LT18 industrial | $6,499 plus $399 freight | 18 in class industrial bandsaw | Italy (retailer listing) |
Notice that the only two rows where we could document a country are the mid-range 14|BX and the top-end LT18. For the cheaper models, the listings we read never named a country, which is exactly why we tell you to ask instead of assuming. Prices move often, so treat the figures as a snapshot rather than a quote.
Laguna Sister Brands and the Few US-Built Products
The Laguna website says the company also owns the SuperMax and Dake brands. The US Manufacturing Report profile says Laguna acquired the Dake Corporation in 2019 and that some special products from that acquisition are made in the US. If a made-in-America machine is your priority, that is where to look first, and you should verify the specific model rather than assume the whole brand qualifies.
The same profile puts Laguna at roughly 160 employees, with about 75 in Texas, and mentions other US facilities in South Carolina, Michigan and Minnesota. Those figures come from one article and may have changed, so use them as background instead of a current count.
Laguna Origin Compared With Other Tool Brands
Laguna is far from unusual. Many well-known woodworking brands design in one country and build in another, and the label you see in the aisle rarely tells the whole story. If you are researching several brands, our breakdown of whether Kobalt tools are American made follows the same approach of sorting origin by tool type, and our guide to where Rikon tools are made covers another brand in the same price bracket. For a single Laguna saw, see the Laguna F1 table saw review.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are Laguna Tools made in the USA?
Not the bandsaws, lathes and table saws. Laguna designs traditional machines in the United States, but a profile by US Manufacturing Report says a factory in Taiwan builds them to those designs. What Laguna does build in the US is CNC assembly in Grand Prairie, Texas, using frames sourced from China.
Where are Laguna bandsaws made?
Classic Series bandsaws such as the 14|BX and 18|BX are built at an ISO-9001 certified facility in Taiwan, according to Laguna’s product pages. Laguna’s industrial LT-series bandsaws are listed by at least one retailer as made in Italy. Check the spec page for the exact model.
Where are Laguna table saws made?
Laguna does not state a country on every table saw page we read. The US Manufacturing Report profile places its table saws among the traditional machines built in Taiwan, but confirm the country of origin with Laguna or the seller before buying a specific model such as the F1 or F2.
Is Laguna a good brand even if it is not made in the USA?
Origin alone does not settle quality. Laguna backs new woodworking machines with a two-year warranty and lists support as a selling point. Judge a machine by its specs, support and warranty, not by the flag on the box.
In short, Laguna Tools designs in the US and builds most of its traditional machines in Taiwan, with some bandsaws from Italy and CNC machines assembled in Texas. Verify the origin of the exact model before you buy.
